ANNAPOLIS, MD –
After taking all three matches of the Kristen Dickmann Memorial Tournament to five sets the Hartford volleyball team split two matches, defeating the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks (25-14, 15-25, 16-25, 25-23, 15-13) and falling to the Howard Bison (25-16, 18-25, 18-25, 25-21, 9-15), on Saturday. With the split, and the outcome of the other two Saturday matches, the Hartford Volleyball team won the tournament and sophomore outside hitter Kami Nethersole was named the tournament MVP. Following the weekend, the Hawks stand at 5-10 on the season.

Nethersole continued her excellent hitting from Friday's opening match win over Navy. The outside hitter led the Hawks in both matches, finishing with double figure kills in each. She opened the day with 15 kills against UMES and closed out the tournament with 10 kills against Howard in the nightcap. Joining her on the All-Tournament team was senior setter Lindsay Ford and rookie outside hitter Dionna Kirton. Nethersole's MVP honor marks the third tournament honor of the season for her.

Joining Nethersole in double figures against UMES was Kirton with 12 kills and Michelle Cordell with 10 kills. Kirton led the Hawks double digit hitters against UMES with a .400 hitting effort with two errors in 25 total attacks.

Leading all hitters was Ford who finished with seven kills and one error in 10 total attacks for a .600 hitting percentage. Also finishing with only one error for the Hawks was Lindsay Makowicki who finished with six kills in nine total attacks for a .556 hitting percentage. As a team, the Hawks hit .250 from the field with 57 total kills and 22 errors in 140 total attacks.

Defensively, two of the Hawks leading hitters led the team with Kirton completing her fourth-straight double double with 12 digs, while Nethersole finished with 11 digs. Cordell and Ford led Hartford blocking efforts with three blocks each.

Ford finished both matches as the Hawks leading setter with 44 assists in the opening match against UMES and then added 31 in the closing match against Howard.

In the nightcap, Nethersole was the only Hawk to finish with double figure kills with Kirton finishing second on the team with eight kills. Leading the Hawks hitters was Cordell who finished with a .273 attack percentage with two errors and five kills in 11 total attacks. Also among the leading hitters was Sydney Scott who finished with six kills.

Ford led the team defensively in the close out match with 12 digs, one of two Hawks to finish with double digit digs. She was joined by Nethersole, who added 10 digs. Also leading the way defensively was Kirton with seven digs and Scott with eight digs. Cordell again led the team in blocking with four total blocks, with Ford matching that total.
