Cordell Puts Down 13 Kills to Lead Hawks in 3-1 Loss to Bryant

The University of Hartford volleyball team fought from a 2-0 deficit to pull out a third-set victory before falling in the fourth set to the Bryant Bulldogs at the Reich Family Pavilion on Wednesday night. Hartford falls to 5-11 overall, while the Bulldogs are now 12-5 on the season.

The Hawks were led by junior Michelle Cordell who finished as the only Hawk in double figures with 13 kills. She also finished the match with a .290 attack percentage with four errors total in 31 total attacks. Finishing just behind Cordell in kills was sophomore Kami Nethersole who finished with nine kills. Two players added eight kills in the match, Dionna Kirton and Lindsay Makowicki, while senior setter Lindsay Ford led the team in hitting percentage with six kills and only one error in 10 total attacks for a .500 attack percentage.

As a team, the Hawks finished with a .106 attack percentage with 51 total kills and 33 errors in 170 total attacks. Leading the Hawks offense through the match was Ford, who finished with 35 assists. The Bulldogs finished the match with a .127 attack percentage with 48 total kills and 28 errors in 158 total attacks.

Defensively, the Hawks finished with three players compiling double figure digs led by junior libero Danielle Etta. Etta led all players in the match with a career-high 28 digs, just the second time this season she has racked up 20 or more digs. Joining her in double figures was Sydney Scott with 12 and Kirton with 11. The Hawks also finished the match with nine total kills, led by Scott who finished with one solo block and two block assists.

The Hawks welcome the Sacred Heart Pioneers to the Reich Family Pavilion tomorrow night. The match will be the third-straight home match against a Northeast Conference opponent. Hartford and Sacred Heart are scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start and as always the match is free to the public.
