Volleyball Falls to Albany in Three Sets, Led by Nethersole's 11 Kills

The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped a three-set (25-15, 25-17, 25-22) match to the Albany Great Danes on Thursday, the third of three-straight home matches for the Hawks. Hartford falls to 10-12 on the season and 1-4 in America East action.

The Hawks struggled to control the Great Danes power hitting throughout the match, which was led by 6'2” Casey Wright who finished without an error in 23 total swings, connecting on 14 of them for a .609 hitting percentage. Wright's 14 kills led all players in the match and was one of only three total players to surpass double figures.

Hartford was led by its junior outside hitter Kami Nethersole who finished as the only Hawk in double figures with 11 kills. She also hit well for the match, finishing with just two errors in 28 swings for a .321 hitting average. Sareeta Nethersole and Michelle Cordell rounded out the Hawks leading hitters with eight kills each. The pair also hit well with Cordell finishing the contest with a .250 hitting average (three errors in 20 swings) and [Sareeta] Nethersole finishing the competition with a .208 average on three errors in 24 total attacks.

As a team, the Hawks finished the match hitting .163 with 36 total kills and 19 errors in 104 total attacks. Freshman setter Jackie Tamburri finished the match with 27 assists, while adding three kills and not hitting into an error in five total attempts. The Great Danes led both squads in hitting with a .327 average as a team.

Defensively, the Hawks used a balanced effort across four different players, with Cordell leading the bunch with 10 digs, the only Hawks to hit double figures in the defensive category. [Sareeta] Nethersole added nine, while Tamburri and [Kami] Nethersole each chipped in nine digs.

The Hawks will return to action on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. when they welcome the Binghamton Bearcats to West Hartford for the final match in the first swing through the 12-match conference season.
