Hawks Drop Mid-week Non-conference Meeting at Connecticut 3-0

The Hartford volleyball team dropped its third-straight (25-18, 25-17, 25-17) match with a three-set loss to the Connecticut Huskies on Tuesday night. The match, which is a break in conference play before returning home for four-straight league matches, drops the Hawks to 9-10 overall.

Junior outside hitter Kami Nethersole led the Hawks as the only player to finish in double figures with 12 kills. The Hawks hitting struggled throughout the match, finishing with a .099 attack percentage with 34 kills and 23 errors. Nethersole finished second on the team with a .189 hitting average (five errors, 37 total attacks), while her sister, freshman Sareeta Nethersole led the Hawks hitters with seven kills and just two errors in 24 total swings.

Rounding out the Hawks hitters was Dionna Kirton with five kills and Jackie Tamburri and Michelle Cordell with four kills each. Lindsay Anderson added two kills for the visiting team. Tamburri continued to run the Hawks offense, finishing with 24 assists. A pair of players led the way on the defensive end with Kirton and (Sareeta) Nethersole finishing with 13 digs apiece.

The Huskies finished the match with a .243 hitting percentage (37 kills, 11 errors, 107 attacks) led by Mattison Quayle who led all hitters in the match with 13 kills. Her 13, along with (Kami) Nethersole's 12 were the only two players in the match to finish with double figures.

The Hawks will host a pair of conference matches this weekend when they host the UMBC Retrievers and the Stony Brook Seawolves at the Reich Family Pavilion. UMBC will begin a four-match home stretch when they enter West Hartford on Friday at 6:00 p.m. Stony Brook will round out a busy weekend of Hawks home events with a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday.
