Alves Finds Back of the Net in Hawks 1-0 Win at Holy Cross

The University of Hartford women's soccer team remains unbeaten in 2011, scoring its first victory of the season 1-0 over Holy Cross on Thursday night. Junior Caitlin Alves provided the only offense in the game, her first goal of the season.

Alves connected with redshirt-senior Mary Beth Hamilton for the game's only goal in the 60th minute. The goal was the first game winner in Alves career and came off of a corner kick scramble in front of the net.

The Hawks began to strike early with two shots in the first 12 minutes of the game. Overall, the Hawks trailed in the shots category by a 12-8 margin, however they led the way at the halftime break with a  4-2 advantage.  They would then be outshot by a 10-4 margin in the final 45 minutes. Leading the way individually for the Hawks was Hamilton who took three total shots, with two of those forcing Crusader keeper Ashlyn Angell into action.

The Hawks forced Angell to make three saves in the game, while Hawks keeper Erin Quinlan made five total saves, a single save in the first half and four in the second half.

Hartford is scheduled to return to action on Sunday, August 28 when they travel to Saint Joseph's College for a 1:00 p.m. match. Follow HartfordHawks.com for updates on Sunday's game with the impending threat of inclement weather.
