Box Score

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – With 121 seconds left in the second overtime, senior Shealagh Begley closed out the Hartford Hawks women's soccer regular season with her second goal of the year on a free kick from 35 yards out to give the Hawks a 2-1 victory over the Stony Brook Seawolves. Hartford will be the #1 seed in the upcoming America East Championship and after a bye in the quarterfinals will host the winner of No. 4 Vermont versus No. 5 Albany on Sunday, October 28 at 2:00 p.m.

Begley's goal was the second for Hartford as they recovered from an early 1-0 deficit after the Seawolves scored in the sixth minute. The equalizing goal for Hartford came in the 56th minute when senior Caitlin Alves provided a cross deep in the box to rookie Elise Galipo who tapped in her third goal of the season.

Stony Brook's lone tally started with a pass from senior Taryn Schoenbeck up the left side where Larissa Nysch collected and provided a shot just inside the opposite upright for her seventh score.

Hartford finished the match with a 15-14 shot advantage, including a 4-0 lead in the second overtime, the fourth of which provided the game-winning marker. Hawks keeper Erin Quinlan finished the afternoon with three saves, all of which came in the second half. Her counterpart for the Seawolves, Ashley Castanio, finished with five saves, two in the first and second half and a single save in the second overtime period. Stony Brook also held a commanding 11-4 advantage in corner kicks, including a 7-3 lead in the first half alone.

The loss for Stony Brook knocked them into seventh place in league standings, however they will enter the America East Championship as the sixth seed with Boston University ineligible to compete for a league title. The Seawolves had the opportunity to finish second in the standings with a tie or victory on Sunday.
