ORONO, Maine – Goalkeeper Erin Quinlan scored her seventh shutout of the season behind goals from three different Hawks as Hartford (8-2-3, 4-0 America East) topped Maine 3-0 in Orono on Thursday night. Rookie Sidney Spremullo scored her first goal of the season in the 22nd minute for what amounted to be the game-winner.
Hartford finished the first half with a 2-0 advantage, while finishing the first forty five minutes with an evenly matched six shots. Quinlan finished the first half with four saves, while Maine keeper Lauren Swant stopped three shots, while allowing the two goals.
Spremullo's game winner came off a pass from senior Amelia Pereira. After being provided the pass the rookie striker was able to beat the outstretched Swant. Pereira would then connect will a fellow classmate early in the 40th minute for the first of two insurance goals. Pereira's second assist came on a restart to Caroline Dixon who was able to head a shot over the keeper.
Quinlan would be called into action six times in the second half after facing nine total shots from the Black Bears. Hartford finished with seven shots, forcing Swant to make a pair of saves aside from allowing a third goal.
Pereira capitalized mid-way through the second half with the Hawks third goal of the game connecting with Arielle Aikens late in the 69th minute. Aikens provided a pass across the box where Pereira knocked it home for her team and conference leading 10th goal of the season.
Quinlan finished the game with a season-high 10 saves, just the second game at Hartford where the junior stopper has made double digit saves. Maine finished the game with a 15-13 shot advantage, while the Hawks led the corner kick battle with five compared to the Black Bears three.
The Hawks return home for the first of two-straight home contests, a Sunday afternoon matinee against the Albany Great Danes. Hartford and Albany are scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium.
