WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford volleyball team closed out the 2012 season on Sunday afternoon with a five-set victory over Providence. The Hawks (9-19 overall, 3-9 America East) were led by sophomore Sareeta Nethersole who finished with a career-high 24 kills, one of three players in double figures.
Joining the sophomore hitter was older sister Kami Nethersole who finished with 17 kills in her final match as a Hartford Hawk and junior Lindsay Anderson who finished with 12 kills and a match-high .524 hitting average with one error in 21 total attacks. The elder Nethersole finished with a .286 average on three errors in 49 attacks, while the younger of the siblings finished with a .271 average on eight errors in 59 attempts.
As a team, the Hawks finished the match hitting .268 with 72 total attacks and 20 errors in 194 attacks. Sophomore setter Jackie Tamburri finished the afternoon battle with a season-high 62 assists, one shy of her career high set as a rookie.
Defensively, the Hawks were led by again led by (Sareeta) Nethersole who finished with a season-high 26 digs, her third match of the season with 20 or more digs. She was one of five total players in double figures on the defensive side of the ball, three of which passed the 20 digs mark; Tamburri and libero Dionna Kirton, who each finished with 21. Joining the three in double figures was (Kami) Nethersole with 16 and Lindsay Compton with 12. The Hawks also finished with five total blocks, led by Kathryn Gawrych who finished with four.
