Volleyball Falls to UMBC in Three on Sunday

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Hartford volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to UMBC on Sunday afternoon, wrapping up a two-game weekend trip through Vestal, N.Y. and Baltimore, Md. The Hawks were led by senior Kami Nethersole and junior Dionna Kirton who each finished with six kills. 

Overall, the Hawks (8-18 overall, 2-8 America East) struggled to find an offensive rhythm, finishing the match hitting .018 with 26 kills and 24 errors in 109 total attacks. Nethersole led all Hawks hitters with a .154 average suffering just two errors in 26 attempts. Also among the leading hitters for Hartford was junior Lindsay Anderson who finished with five kills. Sophomore setter Jackie Tamburri finished with 21 assists.

Defensively, Tamburri and Kirton led the way each finishing with 10 digs. The double double for Tamburri is her team leading 16th of the season. The Hawk also finished the night with five total blocks led by Anderson who collected three on a solo block and two block assists. 

UMBC was led by redshirt-freshman Krystal Mlemchukwu who finished with 10 kills, the only players on the night to finish in double figures. Hannah Schmidt led all players in the match with 17 digs, while setter Mallory McIntyre collected 33 assists. 

Hartford will next play on Friday, November 9 with a match at New Hampshire. The Hawks and Wildcats are scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start in the second to last regular season match.
