BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Hartford volleyball team split its final two matches at the Buffalo Volleyball Blue & White Classic on Saturday afternoon, falling to the host Bulls in three sets (25-19, 25-22, 25-5) and topping the Dartmouth Big Green in four sets (25-18, 25-20, 16-25, 25-14). Sophomore Sareeta Nethersole led the Hawks on the afternoon with a combined 24 kills.
(Sareeta) Nethersole finished the first match of the afternoon with seven kills and struggled to find a hitting rhythm with six errors in 28 attacks. Senior Kami Nethersole led the Hawks in the first match with nine kills and a .160 hitting average (five errors and 25 attacks). Sophomore setter Jackie Tamburri finished with a double double with 17 assists and 13 digs.
The younger Nethersole finished the second match of the day, against Dartmouth, with a match-best 17 kills and a .300 hitting average with five errors in 40 attacks. Older sister, (Kami) Nethersole, finished with 11 kills, while junior Lindsay Anderson finished with 12 kills. Sophomore Kathryn Gawrych closed out the nightcap with a match-best hitting average with seven kills and no errors in 11 total swings for a .636 average.
Tamburri finished with her second double double of the day with 48 assists and 13 digs, one of four players with double figure digs. Leading the way on the defensive side was (Sareeta) Nethersole who finished with 19 digs. (Kami) Nethersole pulled in 16 digs, while libero Saara Carissimi finished with 13.
Hartford returns to its West Hartford campus for its next match. The Hawks welcome the Bryant Bulldogs to the Reich Family Pavilion on Tuesday for a 6:00 p.m. Last season, the Hawks and Bulldogs met twice with Hartford winning both match-ups.
