Nethersole Sisters Combine for 23 Kills, Hawks Fall in Four to Seawolves

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Sareeta Nethersole and older sister Kami Nethersole combined for 23 kills, half of the teams total, as the Hawks dropped a 3-1 decision (25-21, 25023, 12-25, 25-13) to Stony Brook on Friday night. Hartford falls to 6-12 on the season and remains without a victory in two league games.

The Hawks outhit the home team for the match, finishing with a .246 average on 46 total kills and 16 errors in 122 attacks. (Sareeta) Nethersole led Hartford with 13 kills, her fourth straight match with double figures. She and sister Kami were the only Hawks to finish in double figures as the elder of the two finished with 10 kills, while also hitting .304 for the match with three errors in 23 attempts.

Kathryn Gawrych and Taylor McCreery finished second overall among the hitters with seven kills apiece, while Gawrych led the leading hitters with a .500 average hitting into just one error in 12 attempts. Sophomore setter Jackie Tamburri finished the match with 32 assists.

Tamburri and both Nethersole sisters all finished as the defensive leaders, all three of which combined for double doubles. (Kami) Nethersole led the trio with 13 digs, while Tamburri and (Sareeta) Nethersole each finished with 10. The Hawks also combined for four total blocks with (Sareeta) Nethersole, Gawrych and Lindsay Anderson all finishing with two blocks. Anderson also added six kills to the Hawks efforts.

Hartford returns to West Hartford for its next six matches, beginning with a pair of weekend meetings with UMBC and Binghamton. First up in the back-to-back matches is a Friday night match-up with the UMBC Retrievers (7:00 p.m.) before hosting the Bearcats on Saturday (6:00 p.m.).
