SMITHFIELD, R.I.—The University of Hartford women's tennis team traveled to the Ocean State to take on the Bryant Bulldogs in a midweek dual match. Though the Hawks posted several close matches, including a win in doubles play, they dropped a 7-0 result to the host Bulldogs.
In doubles play, junior
Jessica Galik and freshman
Emily Sneddon combined to take an 8-6 victory in the No. 3 doubles match. However, Bryant picked up wins in the Nos. 1 and 2 matches to win the doubles point.
In singles play, Sneddon again posted a solid result at the No. 4 position. The freshman from London, Ontario battled in the first set before dropping a 7-6(7) decision. Sneddon then took three points in a second set that was played as a tiebreak format due to impending darkness, falling 7-3.
Fellow freshman
Madeline Makings also played well at the No. 3 slot, putting up six game wins in a 6-3, 6-3 loss. Senior
Katina Zampas won five games in her first set at No. 2 singles, falling 7-5, 6-0 in two sets.
The Hartford women have one more match remaining on their fall schedule. The Hawks host Providence in a match that was postponed due to rain last Sunday and has been rescheduled for next Wednesday afternoon, October 16.
