Volleyball Closes Out Four Game Road Stretch with Four Set Loss at Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped a four-set decision to the Stony Brook Seawolves on Sunday afternoon, closing out a four-game stretch of road contests. The Hawks (8-15, 2-5 America East) were led by junior Sareeta Nethersole who finished with 12 kills, one of two Hawks to finish in double figures.

Joining Nethersole in leading Hartford was senior Lindsay Anderson who finished with 10 kills, her third game of the season in double figures, matching her season best. Anderson led all hitters in the match with a .409 hitting average as she suffered just one error in 22 attempts. Also among Hartford leaders was Maya Louis who finished with eight kills and a .150 hitting average (five errors, 20 attacks).

As a team, Hartford finished the match hitting .138 with 47 overall kills and 26 errors in 152 attempts. Junior setter Jackie Tamburri finished the match with 37 assists, while she was one of four defensive leaders, completing her team-leading 12th double double with 12 digs.

Leading the Hawks defensive efforts was Nethersole who also finished with a double double, chipping in a match-best 22 digs, which is also a season high. Also among the defensive leaders was Dionna Kirton who finished with 13 digs and libero Paola Llerandi who finished with 11. Hartford also finished the match with six total blocks, led by Anderson with four block assists. The Crystal Lake, Ill. now needs 20 block assists to tie Teri Connelly for first on the all-time block lists.

The Hawks return to the Reich Family Pavilion for a single match next weekend, with the Providence Friars visiting West Hartford for a 1 p.m. match.
