Box Score KINGSTON, R.I. – Senior Sareeta Nethersole returned to hitting double figure kills for the first time since August 30 when she led Hartford with 13 in a five-set loss to the Rhode Island Rams at the Art Carmichael Invitational on Saturday. Nethersole was one of two Hawks to record a double double in the match, adding a team-best 16 digs to her credit.
Following Nethersole in leading the Hawks was sophomore Chandler Goodwin who finished with nine kills while Lindsay Anderson and Maya Louis each added six kills. Among the leaders, Anderson led the way with a .267 hitting average with two errors in 15 attempts. Overall, the Hawks finished with 45 kills and 28 errors in 153 attempts for a .111 hitting average.
Hawks setter Jackie Tamburri also finished with a double double, collecting 29 assists while tying Nethersole in leading the team with 16 digs. The double double for Tamburri is her team leading fifth of the summer. Nethersole has three to her credit. The Hawks also collected a season-high 10 blocks with Anderson leading the team with seven total, two solo blocks and five block assists. The 10 team blocks is the most for the Hawks since matching that number on September 11, 2012 in five sets against Holy Cross.
After dropping the opening set to the host Rams by a 25-17 score, Hartford stormed back to take a 2-1 match advantage with a 26-20 victory in set two and a 25-21 victory in the third set. The Hawks saw their best hitting come in the second match as the collected 11 kills and six errors for a .147 average, while holding the Rams to just .028 on 10 kills and nine errors. In the second and third set combined, Nethersole collected eight of her 13 total kills.
Hartford returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Northeast Conference foe Bryant University for a 7 p.m. match. Overall, the Hawks and Bulldogs are evenly matched in the all-time series which is tied at 5-5, however the Hawks have won the last three decisions, all taking five sets to determine a victor.
