Horanzy Leads All Players with 14 Kills, Hawks Fall to CCSU in Three

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped a three-set (23-25, 21-25. 18-25) decision to host Central Connecticut at the CCSU Blue Devils Invitational on Friday evening. Freshman Corinne Horanzy led the Hawks in the opening set in the tournament with a match-best 14 kills.

Following Horanzy in leading Hartford was senior Sareeta Nethersolewho finished with eight kills, while Chandler Goodwin chipped in a half dozen. Of the three leaders, Goodwin led the way with a .455 hitting average, suffering just one error in 11 attempts. Horanzy finished with a .241 average with seven errors in 29 attempts.

As a team, Hartford finished the match hitting 192 with 42 kills and 22 errors in 104 total attacks. Junior setter Jackie Tamburri finished with a match-high 33 assists, while adding four kills to her credit without hitting into an error.

Defensively, the Hawks were led by freshman libero Paola Llerandi who finished with 15 digs. Horanzy added eight digs to finishe second for Hartford while Nethersole finished with six.

Hartford continues play at the CCSU Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday when they face the Fordham Rams at 11 a.m. and NJIT at 4 p.m.
