Box Score 2 POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped a pair of three set matches to the host Marist Red Foxes (18-25, 21-25, 15-25) and the Dartmouth Big Green on day two of the Volley in the Valley. For the day, freshman Corinne Horanzy and senior Taylor McCreery led all Hawks hitters with 16 combined kills.
Horanzy led the team in the opening match of the day against Marist with a match-best 10 kills. She was joined in leading the team by senior's Dionna Kirton and McCreery who finished with seven and six kills, respectively. McCreery led all hitters with a .400 average as she finished without an error in 15 attempts.
Jackie Tamburri, the Hawks primary play maker, finished with 28 assists in the team's 31 total kills. Overall, the Hawks hit .105 with 21 errors in 95 attacks. Tamburri also led the team defensively with 12 kills while libero Paola Llerandi finished with eight. Sophomore Alicia Tripoli led the team with three service aces as the Hawks finished with five total.
In the nightcap, the Hawks were led by McCreery who finished with nine kills, leading all players. Her classmate, Lindsay Anderson, finished second overall with seven kills while Horanzy finished with six. As a team, Hartford hit .078 against the Big Green with 34 kills and 25 errors in 116 total attacks. McCreery led the team with a .350 hitting percentage with two errors in 20 attempts.
Tamburri finished the second match of the day with 27 assists while she was tied for second on the team with eight digs. Kirton led the team defensively with 13 digs, while Llerandi tied Tamburri with eight.
The Hawks will return to West Hartford for their 2013 home opener, the first of eight matches scheduled to be played at the Reich Family Pavilion. Hartford welcomes the Holy Cross Crusaders for a Tuesday night (7 p.m.) match in what will be their only test before returning to tournament action with two matches at the Art Carmichael Invitational hosted by Rhode Island.Â
