Hawks Play to Scoreless Draw at Maine on Thursday Night

ORONO, Maine. – Sophomore keeper Jessica Jurg finished with six saves to secure her third-straight shutout as the University of Hartford women's soccer team finished in a scoreless draw following 110 minutes on Thursday night at Mahaney Diamond. The draw keeps the Hawks unbeaten in conference play through five contests (4-0-1), while extending the season record to 8-2-4 overall.  

Hartford finished the nighttime battle with 11 total shots, four of which were marked on goal. Senior striker Chanel Johnson and junior midfielder Sidney Spremullo combined for seven of the Hawks scoring opportunities, including three of the four that forced the Black Bears Claudia Dube-Trempe to make a save.

Jurg's six saves is the second most she has finished with in her eight starts, while she faced 12 shots total from the Black Bears. Jurg remains unbeaten in her eight appearances with a 6-0-1 overall record, while allowing just four goals for a 0.53 goals against average for the season.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS 

·        Hartford and Maine each finish with a point in the league standings after playing to a 0-0 draw following 110 minutes of action under the lights at Mahaney Diamond, the Black Bears baseball field.

·        Sophomore keeper Jessica Jurg led Hartford to its third-straight shutout, and fourth in league play, with six saves, the second most shots she has stopped in 2014.

·        Senior Chanel Johnson and junior Sidney Spremullo combined for seven of Hartford's 11 total shots, three on goal, as the Hawks closed out the game trailing in total shots 12-11. Included in Hartford 11 total shots were five in the extra 20 minutes, one of which in the second overtime forced the Black Bears keeper into action.

·        Freshman Melina Spanos recorded the only other shot on goal for Hartford, that coming in the final five minutes of the first half. She dribbled into the 18-yard box after accepting a forward pass and fired a shot on target that was cradled by Dube-Trempe who was running out on the play.

·        Following the 110 minutes scoreless against Maine, Hartford has now held their opponents without a goal for the last 308 minutes with the last score a late tally in a 5-1 win over UMass Lowell.

·        Hartford finished with 11 total shots, five of which came in the 20 minutes of extra time. Four of Hartford's 11 total shots were marked on goal

·        Keeper Jessica Jurg finished with six saves to collect her fourth shutout of the season, all of which have come in conference play. Overall, the Hawks have shutout four of their five league opponents.

The Hawks return to the friendly confines of Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium for the final time in the 2014 regular season when they host the UMBC Retrievers on Sunday, October 19. That game will serve as Senior Day for the Hawks as they honor four players who will play their final regular season home game; Raelynn Mikell, Stephanie Santos, Chanel Johnson, and Alison Koerkenmeier. Kickoff against the Retrievers is scheduled for 2 p.m.
