Hawks Win Regular Season Title, Defeat Vermont 2-1 in Overtime

CatamountTV Highlights

Burlington, Vt. –
Sophomore Aaliyah Ingram tallied her second game-winning goal of the season four minutes into extra time to lift the University of Hartford women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over the Vermont Catamounts on the final day of the regular season. Just minutes after the Hawks defeated Vermont, the Binghamton Bearcats scored a second OT goal to knock off UMBC in Baltimore giving Hartford the outright America East regular season championship, the first since 2006.

Ingram's game-winning score is her second goal of the season, both of which have been game winners. Junior Elise Galipo picked up a point on the play when she provided a pass across the box to Ingram with Chanel Johnson and Kristen McAdams providing key passes earlier in the play. Johnson started it off with a slide tackle that pushed a shot pass back to McAdams who provided a forward pass to Galipo.

Galipo would also score in the contest, putting the first notch on the scoreboard nearly eight minutes into the second half, working with McAdams for the goal. McAdams gathered an errant pass from the Vermont defense and pushed a pass up the middle to Galipo who worked forward through the defense and drilled a shot 15-yards out form the middle of the box that found the back of the net on the left side.

Hartford will enter the America East Championship as the top seed and receive a bye through the opening round on Thursday. The Hawks will host a semifinal game on Sunday, November 2 between the winner of fourth seeded Albany versus fifth seeded Maine. Kickoff of that semifinal contest at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.

GOALS RUNDOWN

·        Junior Elise Galipo scored the game's first goal working with classmate Kristen McAdams, who gathered an errant pass by the Catamounts right around midfield. She pushed a pass up the middle to Galipo who pushed the ball ahead and worked through a pair of defenders firing a shot from about 15 yards out in the middle of the box that found the inside of the net on the left side. The goal for Galipo is her third of the season, third most on the team.
