COMBINED RESULTS
PLANTATION, Fla.—Sophomore
William Betts turned in a round of 67 to open his spring season Tuesday, but his low score was not enough to propel the Hawks past Florida Atlantic in a dual match played at the Plantation Preserve Golf Course. Betts led the Hawks to a score of 291, just seven strokes behind Florida Atlantic in the single-round dual.
Betts, a sophomore from Leechburg, Pa., carded his career-low round against FAU on Tuesday. His 67 was his second-career round in the 60s after shooting a 69 in the second round of the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate last fall.
Joining Betts below par was junior
Anthony Vecchiarelli, who navigated the course in 71 strokes, tied for the third-best round of the match.
Sophomore
Evan Russell posted a 76 while freshman Jon Malloy carded a 77 to round out Hartford's scoring four. Juniors
Wally Gonzalez,
Dan Yustin and
Matt Carville, as well as freshman Nick Drago, also played in the spring opener for the Hawks.
Hartford heads to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for its first tournament of the 2014 spring schedule when it takes on the field at the Bash at the Beach, March 10-11.
