THE LEAD:
Paulina Modestow delivered seven kills and Katy Henchy posted six, but a strong defensive effort led Yale to a 3-0 win over the Hartford volleyball team on Tuesday. Megan Rasmussen led all players with eight kills in the win for the Bulldogs. It marked the final match of the season for the Hawks and the last in the careers of seniors Kathryn Gawrych and Erinn Lavelle.

SET ONE:
The Bulldogs got out to a quick start, using a strong performance on the serve to open an 8-3 lead and force a Hawks timeout. Hartford stopped the rally with a Rachel Moll kill, but Yale came right back and pushed its advantage to 14-5, and the Hawks took their second timeout of the stanza. Hartford was unable to recover, and the Bulldogs finished off the set.

SET TWO:
Yale jumped out to a 5-0 lead early in the second, but the Hawks rallied back with three straight to cut it to 5-3. Yale was able to slowly pull away and pushed the advantage to 18-9 and force a Hawks timeout. From there the Bulldogs built their edge, with the Hawks cutting it to 23-13 late on a Modestow kill, but Yale finished it off with a service ace.

SET THREE:
The third set was a strong battle between the two sides, with the Hawks building a 9-7 lead on the strength of a Henchy kill and a Gawrych ace. The two squads traded points to 13-12 at that juncture, but Yale delivered six straight points to force a Hartford timeout with the score 18-13. The Hawks were able to cut it to three, 21-18, after an Alyse Wenzel kill, but Yale delivered the final four points to finish off the match.
