Softball Drops Series Finale to Stony Brook on Sunday

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Hartford softball team suffered a 12-0, six-inning loss to Stony Brook in the final game of an America East Conference series. With the setback, the Hawks (2-30) drop to 0-8 in conference play while the Seawolves (15-12) improve to 4-1 in the America East with the series sweep.

Bria Green's third home run of the series gave Stony Brook a 3-0 edge in the top of the first. Before the end of the frame, the Seawolves built that lead to five runs before taking a 6-0 advantage in the next inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Shayla Giosia.

The Seawolves continued to add to their run total as they plated three more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 12-0 advantage. Green finished with eight RBI on the weekend series.

Inside of the circle, Jane Sallen went the distance, allowing just two Hawks to reach base. Marisa Ferguson walked in the bottom of the first while Jenice Aloyo launched Hartford's lone hit on the afternoon with an infield single. The Seawolves' hurler improves to 10-7, while Elizabeth Batsinelas, who earned the start for the Hawks, falls to 0-5. She worked a third of an inning, allowing five earned runs on four hits.

The Hawks have a pair of instate opponents on the docket as they host UConn in a single game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. before heading to Quinnipiac for a Thursday doubleheader at 2:30 p.m.
