WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Hartford softball team dropped its first of three midweek games by a 5-0 decision to the visiting UConn Huskies on Tuesday afternoon at the Hartford Softball Complex. Hartford (2-31) travels to Quinnipiac for a doubleheader on Thursday with the first pitch scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
Hartford finished without a hit against the Huskies, while stranding six total runners on base, including three in scoring position.
UConn opened up the scoring in the third inning with a pair of runs. Emma Stanley lead off the frame with a double and would eventually score the first first run when shortstop Lexi Gifford drove her in on a single. The second run came courtesy of one swing from centerfielder Alyssa Gardea with her fourth home run of the season. The final three runs for the visitors also came on a home run with Emma O'Donnell's team leading fifth of the season.
Inside of the circle, Lauren Duggan went the distance earning the complete game no-hitter. For the Hawks, freshman Kelsey Bird suffered the loss, her eighth of the season. The rookie hurler threw four innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and a walk.Â
