Tryon's Winner Lifts Men's Soccer Past SFU

THE BASICS:

RESULT: Hartford 2, St. Francis 1 (OT)
RECORDS: Hartford (4-3-2), St. Francis (4-2-3)
LOCATION: Al-Marzook Field (West Hartford, Conn.)

THE LEAD:
Junior Jeff Tryon headed home the game-winner with 48 seconds remaining in the second overtime to lift the Hartford soccer team to a 2-1 win over St. Francis on Sunday afternoon. Tryon's winner lifted the Hawks to their third consecutive victory heading into Saturday's conference opener against UMBC. Andri Jonasson also scored in the victory for the Hawks.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
·         After 109 minutes of fierce competition, the Hawks earned the game winner at 109:12 on Tryon's second goal of the season. Rohan Roye played a ball up the left side to Anthony LoBello, and the senior sent a low cross to the front of the net, where Tryon headed the ball into the back of the net to send his Hartford teammates into a frenzy.
·         The scoring opened in the 62nd minute, with Andri Jonasson earning his first career goal at the 61:36 mark. Mikkel Song took a free kick from just outside the left side of the box and sent it to the goal mouth, where Jonasson leapt and flicked a header inside the far post to make it a 1-0 Hawks lead.
·         Saint Francis evened the score in the 86th. Nick Hanuscin sent a long throw toward the box and a Hawks defender got a head on it, but could not control the ball, and Francis de Vries took advantage, sending a header past David McKinnon to make it a 1-1 score.
·        St. Francis held an advantage in possession for the majority of the opening half, and held a 5-3 lead in shots and a 1-0 edge in corners. Conner Rezende led all players with two shots in the opening half.
·        The Hawks picked up the pressure toward the end of the opening stanza, and had a golden opportunity to draw first blood in the 28th. Jonasson sent a brilliant cross to the front of the goal, but the SFU defense was able to neutralize a streaking Brian Richards to thwart the attempt.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
·         The Hawks extended their unbeaten streak to 15 games at Al-Marzook Field, dating back the 2013 season on Oct. 5 against UMBC.
·         Tryon became the fourth different Hawk to post a game-winning goal on the season.
·         Tryon's goal was the 12th of the junior's career.
·         A total of 22 fouls were whistled in the contest, 12 on Hartford and 10 on St. Francis. Four yellow cards were issued in the contest, three on SFU.
·         David MacKinnon made one save for the Hawks in the win, while Andrew Garcia turned aside four shots.

NEWS & NOTES:
·         The win by the Hawks snapped a five-game winning streak by the Red Flash.
·         The Hawks and St. Francis have now each won one game in the all-time series between the teams, started last year.
·         MacKinnon continues to make moves in the Hawks' Division I record books as he earned his 24th career victory between the pipes. He entered the career top-five with that victory.
·         Hartford improved to 10-1-8 in overtime since the start of the 2013 season.
