Women's Soccer Dropped by New Hampshire

THE BASICS:

RESULT: New Hampshire 3, Hartford 1
RECORDS: Hartford (8-4-0, 2-1 AE); New Hampshire (6-4-2, 3-0 AE)
LOCATION: Bremner Field (Durham, N.H.)

THE LEAD:

The University of Hartford women's soccer team suffered its first loss in America East action on Sunday, as it dropped a 3-1 decision at New Hampshire on Bremner Field. Sophomore forward Julia Carr put the Hawks on the scoreboard in the 14th minute on a penalty kick, but the Wildcats, who tied up the game five minutes later, did their damage with two scores in the 71st and 73rd minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Carr scored the Hawks' lone goal of the match in the 14th minute. Her team-leading fifth strike of the season came on a penalty kick.
  • Hartford's lead was short-lived, though. Just over five minutes later, Gaby Dorsey netted the equalizer for New Hampshire after cleaning up a deflection on a Brooke Murphy shot that was rejected by Hawks' keeper Jessica Jurg in the 19th minute.
  • A quiet start to the second that featured just one shot from Hartford's Bridgette Alexander was quickly broken up in the 71st minute. A Wildcats' breakaway produced the go-ahead tally, as Veronica Hardy one-timed a pass from to put the home team in front.
  • Less than 100 seconds later, New Hampshire added to its lead on another breakaway. Lane sent a through ball to Murphy, who beat Jurg with a low shot to the right to make it a 3-1 Wildcats' advantage.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The Hawks held advantages in shots (11-8) and corner kicks (2-0).
  • Six of the Wildcats' eight shots were marked on target.
  • Jurg finished with three saves while Mimi Borkan stopped a pair of shots for New Hampshire.
  • Carr, who is time for the team-lead in points with 12, has recorded at least one point in each of her last three outings. During that stretch, she has compiled six points on two goals and a pair of assists.

NEWS & NOTES:
  • Hartford disrupted a three-game winning streak in Sunday's loss to the Wildcats.
  • Despite the loss, the Hawks hold a 22-12-2 advantage over the Wildcats in the all-time series.
  • New Hampshire's three goals are the most conceded by the Hawks this season.
