HOW IT HAPPENED:- The Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind the strength of a goal from Brown 70 seconds in followed by a tally by Feiner with 8:41 left in the period. But Hartford's lead would be cut to one before the end of the quarter, as Marist finished the stanza by scoring two of the final three goals to make it a 3-2 game.
- Those final three tallies of the first were netted within a 24 second stretch as Joseph Radin halved the Hawks' two-goal advantage with his team's first score of the game with 2:09 remaining. On the ensuing faceoff, Dylan Protesto, who went 17-for-22 at the X on the night, would come away with the ground ball and go the distance, making it a 3-1, Hartford advantage just 18 seconds later. Gannon Morrison concluded the scoring barrage with 1:45 left, closing the gap to one with his sixth goal of the year.
- In the second quarter, Hartford took a two-goal lead on two occasions thanks to a pair of tallies from O'Brien at the 14:04 and 4:15 marks of the second. But the Red Foxes remained within striking distance, as JD Recor cut the Hawks' 4-2 lead to one with 8:31 left to play before the break. After O'Brien put Hartford back in front by two, Marist closed out the half with a 2-0 spurt to knot up the game at 5-5 at intermission.
- The game would not remain tied for much longer after halftime, though. Behind a dominant 6-for-7 effort at the X by Protesto and a pair of goals from both Huggins and Jinks, the Hawks outscored the Red Foxes, 5-1, to go up by four goals before the end of the third. Two of Hartford's tallies came on extra-man opportunities as Marist's lone score from Vigh with 2:49 left disrupted the Hawks' 3-0 run to start the quarter.
- Feiner fueled the rally with a man-up score to break the tie and make it a 6-5 game with 11:21 left before Jinks and Huggins pushed the advantage to 8-5 with back-to-back scores with 5:52 remaining. Vigh's score closed the gap down to two, but Huggins and Jinks each struck again over the final 90 seconds to give Hartford its largest lead of the game at 10-6 with five seconds left in the stanza. Â
- Early in the final quarter, the Red Foxes picked up momentum and managed to trim their deficit down to with 10:18 to go. But Marist's comeback bid, which featured back-to-back goals from Vigh, would be halted as the Hawks' defense clamped down to keep the home team off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest.
