WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Six teams from the University of Hartford Department of Athletics have received an APR Public Recognition Award from the NCAA, the organization announced today. The Hawks baseball, men's cross country, men's tennis, men's indoor and outdoor track and field and women's soccer programs were all lauded for posting an Academic Progress Rate in the top 10 percent of all schools nationally.
"To have six of our 18 programs recognized in the top 10 percent of the nation is an impressive accomplishment," Director of Athletics
Anton Goff said. "Academic success is one of our core pillars, and with our success in the APR and the America East Academic Cup over the last several years, our programs continue to clear the high standards we set for them year in and year out."
The NCAA annually honors teams earning multiyear Academic Progress Rates in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport. Since the public recognition awards were published in 2004-05, Hartford has been recognized 54 times across 13 sports, with men's indoor and outdoor track and field earning 11 awards apiece.
Each year, the NCAA tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on every Division I team through the annual scorecard of academic achievement, known as APR. The rate measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or quarter and provides a clear picture of the academic performance in each sport. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2011-12, 2012-2013, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. Full APRs for all teams will be released at a later date.
