THE LEAD:
Â
Led by a five-point outing from senior midfielder Tori Tripp, the University of Hartford women's soccer team toppled Binghamton, 5-0, in both teams' America East openers on Sunday. Tripp had a hand in each of the Hawks' final three scores with an assist and a pair of goals over the match's final 11:22 Â to pace the Hawks in the offensive explosion.
Sophomore striker Julia Carr (34') and rookie linemate Kailza Lozada (42') provided the Hawks with a 2-0 advantage at the half before senior Tripp got to work, first assisting on forward Aaliyah Ingram's score (79') before tacking on two goals of her own to put the Bearcats away. Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hawks took the lead on a Carr penalty kick in the 34th minute and never looked back. She beat Binghamton keeper Katie Hatziyianis to the left post to make it a 1-0 game with her third goal of the season.
- Hartford struck one more time before the end of the half, with Lozada doubling the advantage to 2-0 in the 42nd minute. Her fourth marker of the year was tucked into the upper left part of the net on a beautiful breakaway pass from classmate Sierra Stone.
- After some near misses in the second half, Ingram got in on the scoring action in the 79th minute to extend the lead to 3-0. Tripp set up the marker, which was lofted into the upper right by Ingram after a few dribbles into the 18-yard box.
- In the final moments of the game, Tripp stole the show and added Hartford's fourth and fifth scores in the 87th and 89th minutes, respectively. After gathering a feed from sophomore Ashley Claud and beating Hatziyianis with a point-blank shot towards the left post, she struck again less than 103 seconds later, this time, lofting a high shot over the Bearcats' keeper. Stone was credited with the assist, her second of the day.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Senior goalkeeper Jessica Jurg earned her fourth shutout win in relatively easy fashion on Sunday, as Hartford's lone save came from the back line on a Julianna Johnston shot 16 seconds before halftime.
- Hartford put together a dominant performance from start-to-finish, holding commanding advantages in shots (15-2) and shots on goal (9-1).
- The final 11:22 of regulation featured a flurry of scoring as the Hawks added three goals to what was a 2-0 lead to seal the commanding five-goal win.
- Each of Tripp's five points came within the final 12 minutes of the match, as she assisted on Ingram's goal in the 79th minute before finding the back of the net in the 87th and 89th minutes.
- Stone had a hand in two of the Hawks' goals with assists on Lozada's score in the 42nd minute and Tripp's first goal in the 87th minute.
- Hartford's five goals against the Bearcats were the most scored in a single game since a 5-0 defeat of Bryant last season (Sept. 13).
- Hatziyianis came up with a game-high four saves for the Bearcats in the losing effort.
- Binghamton entered Sunday's game conceding just eight goals on the season.
NEWS & NOTES:
- Picking up their seventh-straight shutout win in the series, the Hawks improve to 11-4-1 all-time against the Bearcats.
- With Sunday's win, Hartford is now unbeaten in its last seven America East openers, going 5-0-2 during that stretch.
- Both Carr and Lozada pushed their team-best goal totals to four apiece, while Tripp and Ingram improved their goal tally to three and two, respectively.
- Tripp's five points were the most recorded by a Hawk in a single game since last season's 6-0 win over Iona on Sept. 3. Both Tripp (2 goals, 2 assists) and Ingram (3 goals) tallied six points apiece in that victory.
