SET-BY-SET
• Binghamton came out roaring in the opening set, building an 11-2 lead out of the gate, and then used the strength of the block to push that advantage to 17-5. After the Hawks cut it to 17-7 on an
Astrid Mangual kill and a service ace from Modestow, Binghamton closed the set on an 8-0 run to take the opening stanza.
• The second was much more of a back-and-forth effort, with the Hawks pulling ahead 8-6 early after kills by
Jenna Bridges and Modestow. Binghamton battled back to a 12-9 lead, and the teams swapped rallies to result in a 19-16 lead for the home squad. Hartford then rallied for the next three points to tie the score, but BU came back with three of the next four for a 23-20 lead. The Hawks cut it to 24-22, but that was as close as the visitors would get in a 25-22 defeat.
• Binghamton got out to a hot start in the third, opening an early 8-3 lead, and maintaining that edge all the way to an 18-12 score. The Hawks then struck with a five-point rally with Llerandi at the serve, as her ace trimmed it to 18-17. But Hartford could get no closer, as Binghamton stopped the run and finished off a 25-20 victory.
