THE LEAD:

Boston College used a late charge in the final minutes to break open a tied game, scratching out to a 73-61 decision from the University of Hartford men's basketball team on Saturday night. The Reich Family Pavilion was completely sold out, as 3,438 fans attended the Capital City's Game of the Year.

Ky Bowman and Jerome Robinson combined for 44 points for the Eagles, scoring 21 and 23 points, respectively. The duo accounted for all of BC's points during an 8-0 run that opened up a tied game and gave the Eagles a 66-58 lead with 89 seconds left. Redshirt-junior John P. Carroll scored 20 points to pace the Hawks' offense, while junior J.R. Lynch added 13.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Hawks came out of the gates on fire. Opening the game with three three-pointers and  a 3-of-4 effort from the free-throw line, Hartford jumped out to  an early 12-2 lead with 16:16 left in the first.
  • BC quickly clawed its way back into the game. Scoring 22 of the game's next 27 points, a Jordan Chatman layup at the 3:41 mark capped a stretch of seven unanswered points and put the Eagles on top, 26-20.
  • The lead changed hands two more times before the end of the half, and a Chatman three-pointer with 45 seconds to go in the half sent BC into the intermission with a 31-30 edge.
  • Hartford remained within striking distance for most of the second half. With 5:47 left, the two teams were knotted up at 56-56 thanks to a Lynch layup, but Bowman and Robinson went off for eight unanswered points to break open the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • All but two of Lynch's 13 points came in the first half, including each of his three three-pointers.
  • Lynch handed out a game-best eight assists, the second time this season he has hit his career-best mark.
  • Hartford converted on 10-of-31 three-pointers, marking the fifth time this season the team knocks down double-digit triples in a game.
  • BC outscored Hartford 12-5 from the charity stripe. The Eagles shot 92.3 percent from the line (12-of-13).
  • The Eagles outrebounded the Hawks by a 40-28 margin and had 14 points off second-chance opportunities.
