THE LEAD:
The Hartford softball team was edged in a pair of contests on its second day of the Pirate Invite, hosted by Seton Hall.

GAME 1: BROWN 3, HARTFORD 1
Brown used a three-run top of the fourth to knock off the Hawks in the first game of the day. Meghan Wimmer scattered five hits and two walks in seven innings to collect the win for the Bears.

Meghan Wynn went 2-for-3 and Danielle DeMarco stole home on a double steal to provide the Hawks with their lone run of the contest. Bianca Ross allowed seven hits and three runs in seven innings, but was credited with the loss.

Annie McGregor and Julia Schoenewald each went 2-for-3 for Brown in the victory.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 1:
• The Hawks struck first on a double steal in the bottom of the second that saw DeMarco come home after Wynn's two-out single sent her to third.
• The score remained that way until the top of the fourth, as the first five batters reached base and then a sacrifice fly pushed the Bears' lead to 3-1.
• Hartford got the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but was unable to get any closer.

GAME 2: SETON HALL 8, HARTFORD 0 (5)
The host Pirates plated six runs in the bottom of the third en route to an 8-0 victory over the Hawks. Four different players had two hits each for SHU, including Valerie Suto, who drove in a pair.

Madison Strunk allowed just two hits – one each by Ross and Isabella Gerone – and struck out three in going for the complete-game victory. Gerone was credited with the loss, though just three of the eight runs she allowed were earned.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 2:
• Suto plated the first run of the game when she came home on a double-steal attempt that resulted in an out at first.
• The Pirates added six runs on seven hits and two errors in the bottom of the third, to take a 7-0 lead.
• Seton Hall added its eighth run in the bottom of the fourth when Suto delivered an RBI single to left field.
