Bearcats Take Final Two From Hawks

THE BASICS:

GAME 1 RESULT: Binghamton 12, Hartford 2 (6)
GAME 2 RESULT: Binghamton 5, Hartford 0
LOCATION: Hartford Softball Field (West Hartford, Conn.)
RECORDS: Binghamton (18-19, 8-2 America East); Hartford (3-35, 0-10)

THE LEAD:
Marisa Ferguson hit her second home run of the season, but Binghamton delivered a strong effort both in the batter's box and in the circle to take a doubleheader from the Hartford softball team on Sunday.

GAME 1: BINGHAMTON 12, HARTFORD 2
Ferguson started her Senior Day with a bang, hitting two doubles and a home run, but the Bearcats offense came alive late to lift Binghamton to a 12-2 win in game one. Meghan Wynn added an RBI single in the loss for the Hawks.

Kate Richard went 2-for-2 with four RBI, while Gabby Bracchi had a 2-for-4 day with four runs scored. Sara Herskowitz went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer as well. Rozlyn Price was credited with the win, allowing two runs in five innings.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 1:
• Binghamton plated a pair of runs on Kate Richard's two-run triple in the top of the first to garner a 2-0 lead.
• The Bearcats added four in the top of the fourth, two on a homer to left center off the bat of Herskowitz.
• Hartford cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, with Kylie Dazalla lacing a double to right center and Wynn bringing her home on a single to left.
• But Binghamton responded in the top of the fifth, getting a trio of unearned runs with a pair of two-out singles.
• Ferguson countered by blasting a homer to left center, her second of the season, to cut the lead to 9-2 on the bottom of the fifth.
• Again, Binghamton's bats continued to shine, tacking on three more runs in the top of the sixth to lift the Bearcats to the win.

GAME 2: BINGHAMTON 5, HARTFORD 0
Shelby Donhauser allowed just two hits over seven innings to earn a shutout victory in game two. Jessica Rutherford delivered a home run and drove in three runs, while Jill Bovitt had two doubles and scored a trio of runs.

Amber Mianti and Lexi Wilkerson each had a hit for the Hawks in the loss.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 2:
• The Bearcats scratched a run across in the top of the second, as Herskowitz delivered an RBI single to make it 1-0.
• Binghamton doubled its lead in the top of the third on a double steal as Bovitt came in to make it 2-0.
• Rutherford came through with an inside-the-park home run with two down in the fifth to push the lead to 4-0.
• Binghamton added an insurance tally on a sac fly in the top of the seventh.
• That was enough for the Bearcats, as Donhauser put zeroes on the board the rest of the way to finish off the win.

UP NEXT:
The Hawks have a midweek, conference road game on Wednesday, April 26, when they head to Stony Brook for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
