THE LEAD:
Stony Brook used a big third inning to knock off the Hartford softball team on Wednesday, 8-0.
Kristen DeCiantis delivered a pair of singles in a losing effort for the Hawks.
Lexie Shue went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the victory for Stony Brook, while Allyssa Malony drove in a pair of runs and delivered her fourth home run of the season. Jordan Hering went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored as well.
Morgan Rahrich scattered six hits in six innings to hold the Hawks scoreless in collecting the victory in the circle.
Bianca Ross was carded with the loss for Hartford.
HOW THEY SCORED:
• The Seawolves capitalized on a pair of Hartford errors to go along with six hits in the third, plating six runs for a 6-0 lead.
• SBU added a tally on Malony's solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 7-0.
• Stony Brook finished the scoring with a Rahrich RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to result in the final score.

The Hawks travel to the Empire State for a three-game series against UAlbany this weekend. The Hawks and Great Danes will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by Sunday's series finale at noon.
