Freshman

Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hawks got off to a hot start when the first three batters reached safely and Olson, batting cleanup, blasted a grand slam over the fence in right field to make it 4-0 in the top of the first.
- UMass got one run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single up the middle from shortstop Ryan Lever.
- Sophomore center field Ashton Bardzell gave the Hawks a boost in the second with a three-run homer to center, extending Hartford's lead to 7-1.
- The Minutemen scored three in the third. Lever came through with an RBI triple and scored on a wild pitch.
- Third baseman Zachary Ardito padded the Hawks' cushion in the fourth, giving Hartford a 9-4 advantage with a two-run single to left field.
- MacKinnon pushed Hartford's lead to 10-4 with an RBI single in the seventh.
- Hartford plated three more in the eighth inning to make it 13-4. Catcher Bryce Ramsay picked up an RBI on a bases loaded groundout and two runs came around later in the inning on a throwing error.
Â
Â
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Olson's home run was his second of the season and the first grand slam of his career.
- It was Olson's 16th start of the season and fourth consecutive start for Hartford. It marked his first at shortstop (his first 15 starts came at designated hitter) and it was also his first time batting cleanup for Hartford.
- Bardzell's home run was his team-best eighth. It is the highest single-season total for a Hawk since Andy Drexel hit 12, in 2010.
- MacKinnon now holds the Hawks' all-time career records in hits (257) and runs scored (146). He is also tied for third in total bases (328) with Andy Acabbo (2001-'04), ranks second in doubles (50), and fifth in at-bats (704).
- Hartford reached double-digit runs for the ninth time this season and topped 10 hits for the 18th time. The Hawks are now 3-5 when they reach both of those milestones in the same game.
