THE LEAD:Â
The University of Hartford baseball team wrapped up its regular season schedule with a 10-1 loss at Binghamton on Saturday. The Hawks (20-28, 8-13) struggled at the plate for the second consecutive day, totaling just four hits against the Bearcats, while Binghamton recorded 14 hits after managing 11 combined hits in Friday's doubleheader.
The Hawks entered the day needing a win or a Maine loss against UAlbany in order to wrap up the No. 5 seed in next week's America East Conference Championship tournament. With Hartford's loss and Maine's 2-1 win against UAlbany, the Hawks dropped to the No. 6 spot.
UMBC's 2-1 10
th-inning walkoff victory against Stony Brook locked up the No. 2 seed for the Retrievers and dropped the Seawolves to No. 3 in the conference standings, setting up a first-round matchup between Stony Brook and the Hawks. That game will be played on Wednesday, May 24, at UMass Lowell's LeLacheur Park, at 2:30 p.m.
BU pitcher Nick Wegmann (4-5) stymied Hartford's hitter Saturday, throwing six innings of no-hit ball before turning things over to the Bearcats' bullpen. It marked just the third time this season that Wegmann had pitched more than 5.1 innings and the first time all season he didn't allow a hit.
Â
The Bearcats scored in bunches, plating four in the first, four in the fourth and two more in the eighth. Center fielder CJ Krowiak, right fielder Anthony Meduri and third baseman Justin Yurchak, the Bearcats' No. 1, 2 and 3 hitters, supplied most of the firepower, finishing 11-for-13 on the day. Krowiak and Yurchak each notched four hits. Hartford center fielder
Ashton Bardzell finished 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, while second baseman
Dalton Ruch doubled and scored Hartford's lone run.

Â
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Binghamton scored four runs on four hits in the first inning. Shortstop Greg Satriale punctuated the Bearcats' rally with a two-run home run to left field.
- BU added four runs on five more hits in the fourth, extending its lead to 8-0. Second baseman Henry Pellicciotti and center fielder CJ Krowiak each had an RBI double in the inning.
- Ruch doubled and scored on an RBI single by Campana in the eighth, making it 8-1.
- The Bearcats tacked on another pair in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run single from Yurchak.
Â
Â
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Hartford's struggles at the plate continued as Wegmann retired the first 12 batters he faced, before walking Bardzell. In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, Bearcats starter Jacob Wloczewski retired 19 in a row before right fielder Nick Campana broke up his perfect game bid with a single in the seventh inning.
- In the first at-bat after Wegmann exited the game, center fielder Ashton Bardzell lined a double to left field off BU reliever Jake Cryts for the Hawks' first hit.
