Women's Soccer Drops OT Decision at Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Julie Johnstonbaugh found the back of the net on a header with 94 seconds left in overtime to lead Stony Brook past Hartford women's soccer, 2-1, at LaValle Stadium on Thursday. The Seawolves ended the match with two-unanswered goals to end an impressive 12-game unbeaten streak for the Hawks.
 
Hartford (12-2-2), which entered the match with an unbeaten record for first place in the league standings, drops to 5-1-1 in America East action. With the win, Stony Brook (10-6-1) improves to 5-1-1. 
 
STONY BROOK 2, HARTFORD 1 (ot)
  • Senior Ashley Claud got Hartford on the scoreboard in the 27th minute after rounding Stony Brook's keeper and finishing on an empty net. It improved her goal total to eight, a team-best.
  • The Hawks took their 1-0 lead into the halftime break and continued to hold on to the advantage, despite getting outshot by the Seawolves in the second half.
  • Stony Brook broke through in the final minutes of the match, as Alyssa Francese drew the sides even after putting the finishing touches on a feed from Anna Slang in the 86th minute.
  • With the match sent into overtime, Johnstonbaugh scored in the final minute of the first extra session to propel Stony Brook to the win.
  • The Seawolves held a 10-6 advantage in shots, including a 6-3 edge in shots on goal.
 
HARTFORD NOTES
  • With one game remaining in the regular season, Hartford and Stony Brook are tied for first with 16 points apiece.
  • The defeat marked the first on the road for the Hawks this season, as they entered the match with a 5-0-1 record away from West Hartford.
