Paulina Modestow in style, securing a big 3-1 America East win over UMass Lowell Friday night.
Sophomore
Brittany Braun hit .417 with 11 kills while junior
Jenna Bridges had a team-high 15 kills to lead the Hawks, who improve to 10-10 overall and 3-5 in conference play. Malia Randolph tallied a triple-double with 12 kills, 21 assists and 14 digs for the River Hawks, who fall to 3-19 on the season and 1-7 in conference play.
HARTFORD 3, UMASS LOWELL 1 (25-17, 11-25, 25-22, 25-23)
- SET ONE: Hartford flew out to a 7-0 lead in the first and did not allow UMass Lowell to come any closer than three points the rest of the way, as the Hawks took the opening set 25-17. Hartford hit .440 as a team led by Bridges, who hit .833 with five kills and Modestow, who hit .429 with four kills.
- SET TWO: The River Hawks answered in the second set, climbing out to an eight-point lead (13-5) and forcing a Hawks timeout. Hartford came out of the timeout to score the first two points to move within six (13-7), but UMass Lowell pulled away with five straight points on its way to the 25-11 win and tying the score at one. Claybaugh led all players with four kills.
- SET THREE: Hartford took the lead once again in a back-and-forth third set. Up one midway through the third (10-9), the Hawks used a 7-2 run to pull away from the River Hawks for the 17-11 lead. UMass Lowell continued to fight and moved within one at 22-21. Hartford grabbed the momentum back, scoring three of the final four points for the 25-22 win and the 2-1 lead.
- SET FOUR: The River Hawks held a 19-15 lead late in the fourth attempting to force a fifth set. The Hawks then came alive, going on a 10-4 run to close out the match and take the fourth set 25-23 for their third America East win of the season. Modestow capped off her senior day with a big ace late, while Braun finished off the set with a kill.
- NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Sophomore Megan Anderson had a match high 44 assists and three aces … Sophomore Abby Nash was third on the team with 10 kills while freshman Valerie Diede was a perfect 4-4 on attack … Worley and Modestow combined for 12 digs while freshman Alex Lucero led the team with 13 … Katherine Claybaugh led all player with 17 kills for UMass Lowell.
