Jenna Bridges finished with a team-high 11 kills, but No. 4 Hartford fell to No.1 Stony Brook 3-0 in the America East semifinals Friday night.
Bridges, who was named America East Player of the Year last night, hit .321 to go along with her 11 kills for the Hawks, who finish the season 11-14. Kendra Harlow led the Seawolves, hitting .621 with a match-high 12 kills, as Stony Brook improves to 20-8 and moves onto the America East Championship.
STONY BROOK 3, HARTFORD 0 (25-19, 25-11, 26-24)
- SET ONE:Hartford battled back from an early five-point deficit to close within two at 17-15 and then again at 19-17 after a big block from sophomores Megan Anderson and Brittany Braun. The Seawolves however responded and finished the opening set on a 6-2 run for the 1-0 lead.
- SET TWO:With the match tied 2-2, Stony Brook went on a 21-5 run to take a 23-7 lead. Hartford attempted to comeback scoring four of the next five points, but the Seawolves wrapped up the second set 25-11 for the 2-0 lead.
- SET THREE:After Hartford ran out to a 17-11 lead, Stony Brook battled back to tie the match at 20. The Sea Wolves then went on a 4-1 run to gain match point at 24-21. The Hawks battled back to tie it at 24 before Stony Brook closed out the set 26-24 and clinched the 3-0 win.
- NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS:Braun registered 10 kills and a team-high four total blocks … Nash just missed a double-double with nine kills and eight digs … Anderson registered a team-high 34 assists… Stony Brook hit .387 as a team … Kiani Kerstetter recorded a match-high 12 digs.
2018 COMES TO AN END
The Hawks return 11 players from a squad that made it to the America East Semifinal for the first time in 22 years. The teams 11 wins were the most since 2014 and they will look to build on this year's success in 2019.
