KINGSTON R.I. –Hartford women's basketball won its third straight game, topping Rhode Island, 65-51, Tuesday night in non-conference action.

Ella Awobajo each scored a game-high 17 points, as the Hawks improve to 5-5 on the season. Elemy Colome registered a team-high 12 points, as the Rams fall to 4-6 overall.
HARTFORD 65 RHODE ISLAND 51
After a back-and-forth opening quarter, Hartford took control of the first half, going on a 15-6 run through the second quarter. The Hawks pushed their lead all the way to 12 towards the end of the period after junior
Sierra DaCosta scored four straight points for the 28-16 lead with 1:09 remaining. Rhode Island trimmed Hartford's lead to 10 with under a minute to play as Davida Dale found Jalissa Ross for the layup making the halftime score 28-18.
Hartford continued to build on its lead in the second half, opening the third quarter on an 11-3 run, capped off by a free throw by
Sierra Smith with 6:07 remaining in the period making the score 39-21. The Rams answered with a run of their own, finishing the third quarter on a 17-8 run, making the score 47-38 heading into the fourth quarter. Hartford would however shutdown any chance of a Rhode Island comeback, pushing its lead to as many as 14 in the final period, as the Hawks score the 65-51 victory.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Senior Kelly Douglass matched a career-high with eight rebounds leading all players.
- Jade Young led the Hawks with four steals. She has led Hartford in five of its last seven games in the category and is second in the America East, averaging 2.4 steals per game.
- Hartford finished with double-digit steals for the sixth time this season. The Hawks lead the conference with 11.40 steals per game.
