Aggressive Play Leads Hawks to Second Straight Victory

NEWARK, N.J. –In the Hawks' final non-conference game of the regular season, graduate student Ella Awobajo had her second consecutive 20-point game leading Hartford to the 84-53 victory over NJIT Sunday afternoon.
 
Awobajo finished with 20 points, as the Hawks won their second straight and improve to 7-7 on the season. Milena Bajic came off the bench to score a team-high 11 points, as the Highlanders fall to 3-10 overall.

For the second straight game, Awobajo had a hot first quarter scoring 11 points and helping Hartford score the first 10 points of the game on its way to a 20-8 first quarter lead. NJIT used a 7-3 run to start the second quarter to close with eight (23-15), but after a Hawks' timeout, Awobajo knocked down a jumper to move the advantage back to double digits with 7:39 remaining in the period. Hartford increased its lead to 12 (30-18) at the intermission, aided by eight steals and 16 points in the paint.  
 
The Hawks iced the game in the third quarter outscoring NJIT 31-15, including a 20-2 run to start the period. Hartford pushed its lead to as many as 40 in the fourth quarter to wrap up non-conference play with an 84-53 victory.
 
NEWS AND NOTES
  • On top of her second straight 20-point game, Awobajo has now scored in double figures in seven of her last eight games.
  • Today's 31-point win was the Hawks' largest victory since topping Vermont by 39 (91-52) on Feb. 17, 2018.
  • It is the eighth game this season the Hawks have recorded double digit steals (15), and the most since Hartford registered a season-high 22 against Rhode Island.
  • It the Hawks third consecutive road win of the season. It is the longest winning streak as visitors since Hartford won three straight away from West Hartford during the 2016-17 season.
