THE LEAD:
A late UAlbany push lifted the Great Danes past the University of Hartford women's basketball team, 66-53, on Sunday afternoon.
Â
UAlbany redshirt-senior Jessica Fequiere led all scorers with 20 points, while senior Janelle Harrison led the Hawks with 16.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- UAlbany jumped out to an early 8-1 lead, as Hartford opened the game 0-of-12 from the field. The Hawks quickly caught fire, though, hitting back-to-back threes from junior Lindsey Abed and senior Kelly Douglass to ignite a 10-0 run and take an 11-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- The Great Danes and Hawks went back and forth in the second quarter before four straight UAlbany free throws knotted it up at 20 with 1:57 remaining. Senior Darby Lee drained a 15-foot jumper with three seconds remaining in the half, putting the Hawks back on top, 22-20.
- The Great Danes opened the second half by scoring eight-straight points, giving them a 28-22 advantage. After exchanging layups, the Hawks went on a 7-0 run to reclaim a one point lead at 31-30 with six minutes remaining. Â
- Over the next two minutes, the Hawks and Great Danes exchanged the lead four times before UAlbany closed the quarter on an 8-2 run, taking a 43-37 advantage into the fourth.
- UAlbany continued to expand its lead over the fourth quarter, going up by as many as with 2:20 remaining to take the 66-53 decision.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS & NOTES:
- Hartford tallied two more steals than UAlbany (11-9), while capitalizing and scoring 27 points off turnovers.
- With her pair of three pointers, Abed now sits tied for seventh all-time in made threes, matching Mary Silvia and Shanise Bultron with 122.
- The Great Danes finished with the advantage on the boards (41-34) and from the free-throw line (22-16).
