Women's Lacrosse Tripped Up in First-Ever Road Game at Quinnipiac

THE BASICS:

THE LEAD:
 
A huge push in the final minutes of the first half led the Quinnipiac Bobcats past the University of Hartford women's lacrosse team, 16-4, on Wednesday in the Hawks' first-ever road game of their inaugural season. Quinnipiac's Ashley Bobinski led all players with five points, scoring a pair of goals while tacking on three assists.
 
Junior Billy McLaughlin and freshman Megan Miller each scored one goal and added an assist for two points apiece to pace the Hawks offense.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • Quinnipiac scored the first four goals of the afternoon, but Hartford clawed its way back and made it a game. McLaughlin got the Hawks on the board at the 17:24 mark with her ninth goal of the season before Miller cut the Bobcats' lead in half by scoring her fifth of the year with 9:56 remaining in the half.
  • The Bobcats had an answer for the Hawks' run, though, ending the half with four unanswered scores to take an 8-2 lead at the break.
  • Hartford cut the deficit to five by scoring the first goal of the second half, but the offense continued to roll for Quinnipiac. The Bobcats ended the game on an 8-1 run to seal the victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE & NOTES:
 
  • Wehner and Emily Steele added one goal apiece for the Hawks.
  • Hartford performed well on draw controls, outdrawing the Bobcats, 15-6. Rookies Kaitlyn D'Andrea and Lauren Wehner each won four to lead the Hawks in the category.
  • Hartford had 23 turnovers to the Bobcats' 15. Quinnipic forced 14 of the Hawks' turnovers.
  • Freshmen Jenna Pupillo and Becky Bock accounted for four of the Hawks' seven caused turnovers, finishing with two apiece.
  • Quinnipiac also held advantages in shots (36-21) and ground balls (30-15).
  • Rookie Cassidy Hock came away with some stellar saves, especially on Quinnipiac's free-position shots. She finished with a career-best 14 saves on the afternoon. 
 
NEXT ON TAP:
The Hawks return to Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium on Saturday when they host the Bryant Bulldogs in the first-ever meeting between the two squads. First draw from West Hartford is set for 12 p.m. Admission is complimentary for all fans.
