Last-Second Goal Propel Men's Lacrosse Past Sacred Heart, 11-10

THE LEAD:
 
Senior Griffins Feiner's goal with 18 seconds left lifted the University of Hartford men's lacrosse team past Sacred Heart, 11-10, in Fairfield on Saturday afternoon.
 
Feiner led all scorers with a career-high six goals, while Maxx Tuttle left the Pioneers with five goals and an assist.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • Back-to-back goals less than a minute apart from Huggins and Feiner cut a three-goal deficit down to one with 2:51 left in the opening stanza, but Tuttle struck for the second time in the quarter for Sacred Heart in the final minutes to give the Pioneers a 4-2 advantage heading into the second.
  • Feiner would go on to record his third hat trick of the season before halftime. Pulling the Hawks within one at 4-3, he answered a pair of unanswered goals from the Pioneers and cut the Hawks' deficit to two (6-4) before the break with his third score.
  • The second half opened with the Hawks and Pioneers trading goals in the third quarter, netting three goals apiece and seeing Sacred Heart take a 9-7 advantage into the final quarter.
  • Feiner bookended three straight Hartford goals to open the fourth quarter, taking a 10-9 lead with 7:10 remaining. The Pioneers didn't go away, though, as they knotted the game up at 10 with just over a minute remaining.  Feiner's sixth goal of the day with 18 seconds remaining put the Hawks ahead for the final time, giving them the 11-10 decision.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE & NOTES:
 
  • The Hawks outshot the Pioneers (35-33) while committing more turnovers (15-12).
  • Additionally, Hartford held the faceoff advantage (18-6), while also collecting more ground balls (38-27).
  • Feiner set a career high with his six goals on the day.
