THE LEAD:
The University of Hartford men's basketball team's historic season came to a close to Monday night, as the Hawks fell to San Diego, 88-72, in the first round of the CIT.
Junior's
Jason Dunne and
J.R. Lynch led the Hartford scorers with 14 points, while San Diego's Cameron Neubauer led all scorers with 61.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The contest opened with the Hawks and Torersos exchanging baskets in the opening minutes before back-to-back Lynch layups gave the Hawks a 10-6 lead at the 15:45 mark of the first half.
- From there, San Diego scored the games next 11 points, to take a 17-10 with 13:28 left, a lead they would maintain through the remainder of the first half and take a 42-35 advantage into halftime.
- The Torersos opened the second half with the hot hand, scoring the periods first six points, expanding their lead to 13. The Hawks wouldn't go away, though, as back-to-back Dunne threes ignited a 15-3 Harford run, cutting he San Diego lead to 57-53 with just over 10 minutes remaining.
- San Diego steadily extended its lead throughout the final ten minutes of the game, taking the 88-72 decision.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- San Diego held the advantage from behind the arc, hitting 12 threes compared to the Hawks nine.
- The Torersos also owned the advantage on the boards (32-24).
- Hawks caused more turnovers (13-12) while scoring more points off turnovers (17-14).
- With his four triples, Dunne passed Mantas Storpirstis for fifth on the Hartford all-time career made three-point list.
- With his lone three-pointer, Senior Jack Hobbs surpassed the 100 career threes made milestone.
