THE LEAD:
The University of Hartford baseball team fell, 8-6, to Bryant at Fiondella Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs led for the duration, jumping out to an early 5-0 lead in the first three innings.
Junior
Ashton Bardzell blasted his second home run in three days, while senior
Nick Campana and junior
Chris Sullivan continued their hot bats, both going 2-for-4 on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bulldogs jumped on the Hawks in the first, scoring three runs off two hits, later extending their lead in the third off a two-run single, to take an early 5-0.
- Sophomore Zachary Ardito led off the bottom of the fourth with a double to left field, later stealing third and scoring when redshirt-junior Cam Belliveau reached on an error by the shortstop. Campana drove Belliveau in later that inning off an RBI double to left field. Campana scored on the next at-bat as sophomore Bryce Walker reached on an error, cutting the Bulldogs lead to 5-3.
- Bryant scored a pair in the sixth off a two-run triple by Ryan Ward, that was quickly matched in the bottom half of the inning by a Bardzell two-run home run to keep the Hawks within two, 7-5.
- After Bryant scored one in the top of the eighth, Bardzell flew out to right, driving in Belliveau, but the Hawks couldn't overcome the 8-6 deficit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bardzell hit his fifth home run of the season, which ranked second in the America East.
- Campana extends his hitting streak to eight games and improved America East-leading his batting average to .434.
- Sullivan also extended his hitting streak, sitting at seven games.
