THE LEAD:

The University of Hartford softball team capped off a perfect weekend with an 11-3 victory over Lafayette on Sunday morning. The Hawks finished the Coppin State Eagle Classic 3-0, with wins over St. Peters, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Lafayette. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lafayette jumped out of the gate early, loading the bases on the first four batters of the game. A bases-clearing double to left center putting the Leopards up 3-0.
- With one swing senior Elizabeth Newkirk cut the Lafayette to 3-2 in the second, blasting a two-run home run with one out.
- Starting with a lead-off double from freshman Danielle Rocheleau, the Hawks put up three runs to take the lead in the fourth inning. Freshman Kiana Harris drove in Rocheleau on a fielder's choice before freshman Niccollette Barranger ripped an RBI double to center field, giving the Hawks a 4-3 lead. Junior Kylie Dazalla tacked on one more Hawks run in the fourth, driving an RBI single to right field. Â Â Â
- Hartford blew the game open in the sixth inning, scoring six runs off five hits to seal the 11-3 decision.
