THE LEAD:
The University of Hartford softball team dropped both ends of its #AESB doubleheader against UAlbany on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
  • The Great Danes jumped out early, scoring five in the first, two in the second and five in the third to take a 12-0 lead.
  • The Hawks broke through in the third as senior Elizabeth Newkirk drove in freshman Lily Sencer, who worked a one-out walk, with a sacrifice fly to right field.
  • UAlbany posted seven runs in the fourth off five hits, to take the 19-1 decision.
GAME 2
  • After a quiet opening pair of frames from both teams, the Hawks exploded for three runs in the third. Freshman Jennifer Johnson Fenton blasted a solo home run to left field, her first career long ball, to put the Hawks up 1-0.
  • Freshman Danielle Rocheleau followed up later in the frame, lacing a two-run single up the middle, scoring Sencer and sophomore Jillian Fenton to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead.
  • UAlbany tied the game up with one swing of the bat, loading the bases with one out in the fifth and setting up Kelly Spear for a bases-clearing double to right.
  • The Great Danes took the lead off a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and take the 4-3 decision.
