THE LEAD:

Fifth-ranked UAlbany spoiled Senior Day for the University of Hartford men's lacrosse team, as the Great Danes defeated the Hawks by a 16-6 final on Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium. Jakob Patterson scored a game-best four goals and Tehoka Naticoke added three for UAlbany, which opened the game on a 5-1 run and never looked back.

Senior Griffin Feiner recorded three points in his final collegiate game, while classmate Huggins paced the scoring with a pair of goals. Prior to opening faceoff, Hartford honored each of its 11 seniors — Spencer Andrews, Sam Bianco, Brian Dailey, Rion Davison, Will Dulin, Brendan Gates, Trevor O'Brian, Dylan Protesto and Ryan Vanderford — in a Senior Day Ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • UAlbany opened up the game on a 3-0 run before sophomore Owen Trepeta found the back of the net for the first time on his career to put the Hawks on the board with 6:06 left in the first quarter.
  • That score would hold for the remainder of the stanza, but two quick strikes by UAlbany's Patterson and TD Ierlan 21 seconds apart pushed the Great Danes' lead to 5-1 with 14:19 left until halftime.
  • The Hawks managed to pull back within three at 6-3 with 6:53 left in the half, but Patterson made it 7-3 at the break with 3:47 remaining.
  • A dominant third quarter allowed the Great Danes to run away with the game. UAlbany outscored Hartford, 6-1, to take a 14-4 advantage into the final quarter and put the game out of reach.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE & NOTES:

  • The Great Danes held advantages in shots (51-30), ground balls (17-8) and faceoffs (17-8). Ierlan, who entered the game as the top faceoff specialist in the nation, had a solid outing for the Great Danes, going 15-of-20 with nine ground balls.
  • Connor Fields dished out a game-best four assists, adding one goal to finish with five points.
  • Protesto graduates as the program's all-time leader in faceoff wins (743) and faceoff percentage (.636), while his 391 ground balls are No. 2 all-time.
