HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1

  • The Hawks jumped on the board early as junior Kylie Dazalla singled to short, ultimately scoring on a throwing error by the shortstop, putting the Hawks up 1-0.
  • Junior Isabella Gerone kept the Retrievers in check, only surrendering two hits in the first five innings.
  • UMBC broke through in the sixth innings, platting a pair off an RBI single down the right-field line, 2-1.
  • The Hawks responded in the bottom of the inning as freshman Danielle Rocheleau ripped a leadoff single to second, later scoring off a wild pitch and throwing the error to knot the game up at two.
  • After scoreless seventh and eighth frames, UMBC scored two runs off two hits to take the 4-2 decision.
Game 2
  • The Retrievers had a big first inning, scoring four runs off four hits in the opening frame.
  • UMBC continued to add to their lead, scoring two in the third, four in the fourth and two in the fifth to extend their lead to 11-0.
  • The Hawks remained resilient, loading the bases with one out in the fifth. Sophomore Madison Hilimire drove in sophomore Jillian Fenton on a sacrifice fly, but the Hawks comeback bid fell short, 11-1.
