CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Hartford volleyball team dropped the final match of the Boston College Invitational on Saturday as it fell to Providence in straight sets. The Hawks fall to 0-2 on the season while the Friars improve to 1-2.
Sophomore
Megan Anderson, who paced the Hawks with 26 assists against the Friars, was named to the BC Invitational All-Tournament Team after combining for 46 helpers over the two-day tournament.
PROVIDENCE 3, HARTFORD 0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-20)
- SET ONE: The Hawks and Friars exchanged leads to the tune of a 13-13 tie before Providence got hot. Using a 6-1 run, the Friars, who hit .464 in the opening set, pushed ahead by five at 19-14 and never looked back.
- SET TWO: The Hawks held the upperhand early in the set, jumping out to a 9-6 lead. But Providence rallied to tie things up at 9-9 before it scored seven-straight points to take a 16-10 lead. Hartford managed to cut its deficit in half at 21-18, but the Friars went on to score the final four points to take the set by a 25-18 final.
- SET THREE: With the score knotted at 10-10, the Friars created a cushion using an 8-0 run. Providence would go on to defeat Hartford in straight sets with a 25-20 victory.
- NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Sophomore Lacey Zadra combined for a career-high five blocks to pace the Hawks … one of three Hawks to register a team-best eight kills, classmate Brittany Braun hit .500 on the afternoon, committing just one error in 14 attempts … Modestow and junior Jenna Bridges also had eight kills apiece.
