Women’s Hoops Score Fifth-Straight Win Against Catamounts

Box Score WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Hartford scored its fifth-straight victory, topping Vermont, 61-32, in America East play Saturday afternoon.
 
Junior Sierra DaCosta scored a game-high 15 points, as the Hawks improve to 10-7 on the year and 3-0 in the America East. Hanna Crymble finished with a team-high 11 points in 30 minutes of play, as the Catamounts falls to 5-11 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

HARTFORD 61 VERMONT 32
Vermont controlled the first quarter, moving out to a 12-8 lead in the opening stanza. Hartford answered with under 30 seconds left in the period scoring the final three points, including a steal by freshman Jabria Ingram who found senior Alexia Douglas under the hoop for the quick layup, making the score 12-11 heading into the second. The Hawks then found a groove late in the second quarter, scoring the final seven points of the half for the 23-18 lead heading into the locker room. 
 
Hartford took complete control of the game in the second half with suffocating defense, outscoring the Catamounts 38-14 over the final two quarters. The Hawks forced 41 Vermont turnovers, registered a season-high 24 steals and scored 32 points off turnovers for the 61-32 victory and the team's third-straight America East victory.
 
NEWS AND NOTES
  • Hartford recorded a season-high 24 steals which was one off the school record of 25 set 29 years ago against Columbia (Nov. 26, 1989)
  • Young matched a career-high with six steals, while Young added a season-high with five swipes of her own
  • For the second time this season, the Hawks scored 30 or more points off turnovers with 32, falling two points short of their season-high set against Stony Brook (Jan. 2, 2019)
  • It's the Hawks' fifth consecutive win of the year. It is the longest winning streak since Hartford won five straight during the 2016-17 season (Feb. 17 – Mar. 3)
